Country Life magazine has recommended our charming local Shepherd Market as the destination for gift shopping in London. In the latest edition of the prestigious weekly, lifestyle editor Will Hosie has provided an insider’s guide to lesser-known treasures in the capital.
Will writes: “Skip the crowds at Regent Street and get your gifts from Shepherd Market. These backstreets of Mayfair are a treasure trove of rare bookshops (Heywood Hill, Maggs Bros), cigar shops (Birley, Fumar) and watch dealers (Vertex, Watches of Mayfair). The real gem, however, is Simon Carter, a menswear designer from whom I once bought a pair of wine-bottle-shaped cuff-links for my father. They currently sell these in the shape of acorns, seahorses and even British passports. The perfect gift.”
We heartily agree. In and around Shepherd Market, there’s such a wide range of boutiques with some lovely cafés and historic pubs in between – all you need for a perfect shopping trip!
We are very lucky to have Shepherd Market on our doorstep. Tucked away from the bustling main streets of the capital, it has such a friendly, village atmosphere. Indeed, 80 years ago, local author Robert Henrey called it the village in Piccadilly, which it remains to this day.
