Running until 27 November, Re:Imagining Musicals is a fabulous homage to the wonderful world of musical theatre. Featuring costumes, props, posters and archive footage, it’s a brilliant opportunity to explore the aesthetic and cultural significances of a show.

The exhibition has been organised by theme, including Literature, Film and Popular Culture, History, Society and Conflict and Biographical Musicals.

Simon Sladen, Senior Curator for Modern and Contemporary Theatre and Performance, explains: “Musicals are one of the most exciting and complex forms of theatre to see and stage. In Re:Imagining Musicals we celebrate the power and skill of creativity, along with the many people who help bring these shows to life for audiences to enjoy night after night. From idea to inception, we can’t wait for visitors to step inside and explore the inspiration, imagination and evolution of musical theatre.”

Over 100 pieces are on display in this free exhibition. Highlights include Eliza Doolittle’s gown (designed by Cecil Beaton for My Fair Lady), an original Hamilton poster signed by the cast and creatives and a 1965 original cast recording of Hello Dolly!, signed by lead Carol Channing.
