At 9 Hertford Street, we’re committed to helping others and supporting a greener future. This is why, wherever possible, our purchases are ethical, sustainable and support charities. We are proud that our managing director Aude has taken this a step further by volunteering her time each week for Crisis.
About
Founded in 1967, Crisis is a UK charity who support those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Its team finds safe accommodation whilst offering practical and emotional support.
Every week, Aude supports them by working in one of their stores. She explains:
“As a hotelier, my job is all about comfort and experiences. It shocks me when I see homeless people on my way to work, so Crisis was the charity I wanted to support. I am passionate about charity shops – 80% of my clothes and Leon’s are pre-loved. The Crisis store in Kilburn is in my neck of the woods has always been a source of joy. The assistant manager is a stylish French lady, Evelyne; I love the vibes of the shop and the playlist is second to none. I was so thrilled when they took my application seriously, and so happy when I completed the training. I do half a day per week. I love being on the shop floor, helping customers and managing the till. The staff and volunteers work hard and I feel I give them energy when I work there as I love it so much. I also think working in such privileged surroundings I can lose connection with society. Crisis enables me to connect to a lot of people, from students to elderly pensioners to private collectors (there a few gems to be found in our glass cabinet!).”

If you would like to see what Crisis sell but are unable to visit their shops, do check out the fantastic ranges on their website and Depop.
This festive season
In addition to sourcing green products for 9 Hertford Street throughout the year, we buy sustainable, seasonal adornments from charitable organisations. This winter, look out for our beautiful decorations, bought from Crisis, which have been made from upcycled saris.
