The London Coliseum: its history and current programme

The stunning London Coliseum first opened its doors on Christmas Eve in 1904. It was designed by theatre architect Frank Matcham and is London’s largest theatre with a seating capacity of 2,359. It was the first theatre in Europe to have passenger lifts and the first in England to have a revolving stage.

The Coliseum, who’s original purpose was to be the finest music hall, is now home to the English National Opera and regularly hosts English National Ballet productions. Their current programme includes Nutcracker, La bohème, Così fan tutte and The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s an amazing place to visit so if you love opera or ballet, do secure your tickets as soon as you can.
