The Queen’s official birthday and Trooping the Colour

Queen’s official birthday is marked on the second Saturday of June each year, so in 2022 it will fall on 11 June.

Why does Her Majesty have an official birthday in addition to her actual birthday? Traditionally, British monarchs have an official birthday during the summer months when the weather is inclined to be more favourable for their birthday parade, Trooping the Colour. The custom was started during the reign of George II, whose birthday was in November.

This year, Trooping the Colour was held on 2 June as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
