Two major exhibitions opening at The British Museum this spring: Thomas Becket – murder and the making of a saint & Nero – the man behind the myth

The British Museum has announced that it will be opening two major exhibitions during May. The first is about Thomas Becket (running from 20 May until 22 August) and the second, about Roman Emperor Nero (running from 27 May until 24 October).

Marking the 850th anniversary of his murder, Thomas Becket – murder and the making of a saint promises to tell the story of the life, death and legacy of Thomas Becket. Included in the exhibition will be illuminated manuscripts, eyewitness accounts of his murder, jewellery, sacred reliquaries and an entire medieval stained glass window from Canterbury Cathedral. Tickets are on sale now.

Nero – the man behind the myth will be the first major UK exhibition about the infamous Roman Emperor. The 200 breathtaking items on view, from the imperial palace in Rome and the streets of Pompeii, will chart the young emperor’s rise and fall. Tickets are not yet on sale but further details of the exhibition can be found here.
