World Bee Day: Mayfair’s bees

Happy World Bee Day! Mayfair has four colonies of bees which are housed upon the rooftop of Fortnum & Mason. Each bee hive is extremely well positioned, facing London’s royal parks and the gardens of Buckingham Palace. The bees are native Welsh Black bees, known for their gentle nature and reluctance to sting. The honey is harvested in September; it then goes to auction alongside other London rooftop honeys (rooftop hives can also be found at Somerset House, St. Pancras Station, Hoxton House, Bermondsey and The Royal Albert Hall).
